ARTIST STATMENT: My artistic practice that spans sculpture, text and video, draws influences from my everyday environment as well as cinema. I am interested in supportive and protective structures. Oriented around the concepts of order as both aesthetic and social parameters, I view their purpose with ambivalence – as both boundaries and connections. My focus is on the socio-economic inscriptions within familiar materials and spaces, leading to questions about their relationship with visibility and their impact on the production of affects and knowledge.
Verena Walzl
Verena Walzl (*1987 in Wolfsberg, Carinthia) is the recipient of the Paris Studio Residency awarded by the Province of Carinthia for the second half of 2017.
Her artistic practice explores, among other things, the role and self-conception of the artistic individual in times of profound political change. Through parallel narrative structures and the use of different media—including objects, video, and text—she translates personal impulses, often originating from written material, into spatial installations and connects them with broader political contexts and underlying social structures.
