Virginia Woolf was born Adeline Virginia Stephen in London on 25 January 1882. She worked as a writer and critic from an early age. By the end of the 1920s she was internationally known and successful, writing novels such as “Mrs Dalloway”, “The Trip to the Lighthouse” in 1931 and “The Waves”. To this day, Woolf is considered one of the most influential feminist authors of the last century and a pioneer of literary modernism. She loses her mother at the age of 13, her half-sister at 15, her father at 24. In Journey to the Lighthouse, she works through these experiences.
