International Museum Day 2024 MUSEUMS FOR EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

Rosenzeit

International Museum Day on 19 May 2024 has Museums for Education and Research
Fact not Fake – Knowledge Transfer and Research in Museums as the basis.

This year’s theme aims to emphasise the importance of museums as dynamic educational institutions that promote learning, discovery and cultural understanding.
Gabor Palotai (Gabor Palotai Design), celebrated for an award-winning avant-garde design philosophy, has brought his artistic skills to bear to create a visually stunning and conceptually profound poster that encapsulates the essence of the theme. Set against a sophisticated black background, the poster features the iconic museum ‘M’ in a variety of vibrant colours, symbolising the diverse range of knowledge that museums bring to the world. The abstract composition is a visual metaphor for the vast store of information in museums, waiting to be explored and shared.

The aim is to bring the importance of museums for society and their diversity closer to a wide audience. At international level, the event is linked to the date of 18 May, but in Germany and other European countries it always takes place on a Sunday.
The day of action was proclaimed in 1977 by the International Council of Museums and was first celebrated in Moscow in 1978.
